Its species name draconopterum means "with dragon-like parts" and this impressive Anthurium probably got it because its unusual and irregularly ridged leaves are remotely reminiscent of dragon claws. In the wild it grows in altitudes of 900-1400m occasionally epiphytically but more often terrestrially and is a real rarity as it is difficult to find it in the trade. It is well suited to more experienced plant collectors as it is a little more demanding in care.
