Looking at the pretty leaves of this Aphelandra, it is easy to guess where it got its nickname Zebra Plant from, as its cream-colored leaf veins stand out like zebra stripes against the deep green leaf background. In addition to its attractive foliage, it can also impress with its bright yellow flowers, which it only produces occasionally and when well cared for.

Ben's tips on plant care:

- Location/light requirements: bright, but avoid direct sunlight, supplement light requirements with HID lamps if necessary
- Substrate: well-drained houseplant soil
- Temperature: ideal at 18-21 °C, slightly cooler in winter, but do not allow the temperature to fall below 15 °C
- Watering: Keep the substrate moist and water at short intervals with small amounts of low-lime, lukewarm water, but avoid waterlogging. Water less in winter.
- Humidity: requires relatively high humidity, spray regularly (but leaves should be allowed to dry out afterwards!)
- Addition of nutrients: in spring/summer, fertilize moderately every 4-8 weeks with diluted organ. Fertilize with liquid fertilizer
- The plant reacts very sensitively to the moisture content. Too much or too little water will cause the lower leaves to turn brown and fall off.
- A slightly cooler environment in winter (between 10 and 15 °C) and longer daily exposure to light can stimulate the plant to flower.
