The Selaginella picta is a rarity very sought after among fern collectors, which with increasing maturity is characterized by extraordinary leaf ornamentation. For above evenly arranged rows of deep green leaflets, it forms another row of smaller white leaflets each, which give it the appearance of being decorated with sequins. In care it is somewhat more demanding, it should preferably not be kept as a houseplant, but in a terrarium, where it can grow as a ground cover.

Ben's tips on plant care:
- Habitat/Light requirements: partial shade to shade.
- Substrate: very loose, permeable substrate such as Xaxim sprinkle or Ben's Premium Sphagnum moss
- Temperature: optimal at 22-28° C (day), 18-20° C (night)
- Watering: water moderately with lukewarm water with low lime content. Avoid complete drying out as well as waterlogging.
- Humidity: needs high humidity, place in terrarium
- Nutrient addition: in spring/summer fertilize moderately every 4 weeks with diluted liquid fertilizer. Avoid overfertilization at all costs.
- Avoid draught.
- Suitable as ground cover for terrariums and bottle gardens, but not necessarily as a houseplant in a pot.
